Top 'o the morning to you!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Today is the day when the wee bit of me that is Irish comes out! (Yes, McClendon, on my mother's side) I must admit that I am a sucker for the color green. (I consider it a neutral.) I think that God must love the color, too. He uses it a lot to color His universe and I think Ireland is one of His best works. I love a rousing folk tune by the Chieftains. I think Irish Wolfhounds are wonderful. (My Crockett, at ninety-four pounds, looks like one at half the size!) I have been a fan of U2 since Party Girl. (That is before the War album, so it's old, like me.) And, I love a good Irish accent.

Look at all of the amazing color!

This poor thing is not Irish, but how cute is he?

Bells of Ireland - one of my favorite flowers.

U2

Yes, it is a masterpiece.

Stunning green interiors

We don't have any special plans today, but I can say that some beer and corned beef might be on tap. How about you? Any special plans? Don't forget to wear your green!

Luck o' the Irish be with you,

Krissy

Flashback Friday - 1980's U2

Bono and the gang

Since tomorrow is St. Patty's day and a day to honor all things Irish, I thought I would honor one of my favorite Irish exports...U2. Yes, I am a fan and have been for a long time. Like since before the War album longtime. (Like how I used "like" in my sentence? The whole 80's thing just brought it out, like totally.) Anywho, I have seen U2 in concert, twice. The second time I saw them, one of my friends made it onto the stage! Bono asked him if he wanted to play the guitar with the band. (We were so freaking out!) My friend could not play and that made Bono mad and he kicked him off the stage! We were so proud! Bono kicked my friend off the stage at a U2 concert!

This is me circa The Unforgettable Fire in Jams and a Polo with two of my BFF's at a dance!

This is me (far right) with some friends headed to a concert. Yes, we were trying to look like this. We thought it was cool. And yes, we put eyeliner on the guys.

Happy Friday!

Spring Break

I am home this week having a little "stay-cation" with my boys. Mr. Pearl has business that couldn't wait. Sweet Pea is having a ball in the City of Lights and I am home. With my boys. I am trying to have a good attitude. I mean, they are perfectly happy, so I should be. Right? We are going to spend lots of time outside: riding bikes, fishing, maybe I can sneak in some gardening? So far, we have been to Bass Pro, Cabella's and Academy and we have watched the movie Jack and Jill three or four times. Good times. Anyone would enjoy this, right?

I have been pinning away on Pinterest, spending some quality "me" time. It can't all be about my boys. Oh how I miss Sweet Pea! Hope you all are enjoying your spring break. I found these pictures that said "spring" to me. Enjoy!

Au Revoir Sweet Pea!

Sweet Pea is going to Paris for Spring Break with my mother-in-law. Am I jealous, insanely, but I am so happy for my girl. This is one of her "bucket list" places and she could not be more excited. I know that she is in more than capable hands, but sending my baby girl abroad gives me a little catch in my throat.

But then I think of her taking in a scene like this...

And how excited she is about going to the Louvre.

And sharing a moment like this with her grandmother.

And macaroons from Laduree.

And strolling the Champs Elysees

And climbing the Eiffel Tower...

Well, the catch in my throat is still there, but I am so happy for her. Talk about living vicariously through your children... guilty!

Au Revoir and safe travels,

Mom

Al Fresco

This weekend, we officially christened the back patio. It is now the season of al fresco dinners and a glass of wine enjoyed in the outdoors. My patio doesn't look like this and never mind that there is still some construction debris that we haven't cleaned-up yet. I still love it and treasure time spent there with family and friends.

Not So Mellow Yellow

We haven't really had any winter weather to speak of around here, so all of the plants and trees are already bursting with color. Even for Texas, it is a tad early! For me, Spring begins when the daffodils show their sunny faces and everything else follows suit.

Subtle yellow from House Beautiful

Yellow is a happy color, yet it is one that evokes strong opinions in most people, especially when it comes to using yellow in interiors. You either love it, or you hate it. I don't think there is really a middle ground here. What do you all think? Grandmother's floral or modern and fresh? Whatever your opinion, perhaps you can find one picture among these that will put a smile on your face and spring in your heart.

Retro yellow and still so chic!

How did this happen?

Weekend before last Sweet Pea and Mr. Pearl attended their annual Daddy/Daughter dance at our school. Both of them look forward to this evening and they always have a wonderful time. Daddy is still the apple of my girl's eye and she is adored by him. Just as it should be. Boys take note, you have some big shoes to fill! (truly okay by me, she doesn't need to date until she's thirty or so, right?) What I cannot figure out is, where did my little girl go? Who is this young lady standing by my husband? This year, there was no sweet, little dress in sight. Sweet Pea instead wore a cute little number with sequined sleeves and some absolutely fabulous and oh so chic ballet flats that were handed down from Aunt Holli. She didn't want to wear her "beginner" heels that were the shoe du jour not so long ago.

My baby girl is growing-up and I love the young lady that she is. But where did my little girl go? Sweet Pea does not like me to mention her on the blog, so I will catch some grief for this but it is helping me cope. Cope with the sadness that my Disney Princess loving little girl is now a tween and cope with the happiness of seeing glimpses of the wonderful woman that she is becoming. Sniff. Sniff. I am also writing this down to have something to look at on those days when she is a not so lovable teenager. Remembering this sweet thing may be what saves her!

A Little Peek...

The front porch still has a ways to go, as a new slate floor has yet to be installed.

Home sweet home - at last!

Hello lovelies! I have missed everyone around the old blog and I am finally back! We moved into our new home two weeks ago and although not completely unpacked and settled-in, it's getting there! I thought I would share a few glimpses of the final product with a full reveal when I get every thing in it's place.
I had a sweet neighbor tell me that she felt moving was right up there with death and divorce on her list of "things she hates most". After this move, I am starting to agree with her. We moved out of our old house, only the new one wasn't ready. Our contractor said he needed two or three days at most. Two weeks later, we were able to move. All of my material possessions sat in trucks in our driveway and we lived out of suitcases at my parents' home. (God bless them!) On the bright side, the more than inconvenient delay made us all appreciate our new nest that much more.

The trumeau mirror that I found in Roundtop last spring has a place in the front room

This lime green Ann Sacks tile makes the kitchen!

Both of my boys are tucked away upstairs. They share a bathroom and I cannot wait to share the fun details!

This is Sweet Pea's room - so far, it's my favorite room in the house. I guess it brings out my "inner tween".

Glad to be back!
