Flashback Friday - really?

Is it Friday already? This week has been a blur, but then again, aren't they all? I have had a VERY full plate and have had to scale back so that I could take a deep breath and regroup. I thought I would wish you all a fabulous weekend. I am looking forward to the weekend and Sport Cort's biggest soccer game of the season against their nemesis, the Sharks, the TCU football game, a wedding of a dear family friend and a belated family dinner to celebrate Sport Cort's b-day. Am I forgetting anything? That's a lot for a mere two days - oh, I am also working on getting a new car and have another exciting project in the works.... Here's to a full and blessed weekend!

Blue Plate Special

I have a thing for plates. All kinds of plates. I love how something so very basic and necessary can be transformed into a work of art. I like using plates in my design. Plates are relatively inexpensive, yet they can have a big impact on your space. They can serve as little pops of color on a bookshelf display or give texture and emphasis when grouped and hung on a wall. I also like a haphazard stack of plates on a table. I started my plate collection with blue transferware. I have since strayed to buying bits of everything that strikes my fancy and I love all of them. I was in a "blue" mood today, so here is some "blue plate" inspiration. Happy Monday!

Charles Faudree loves blue plates, too. This is one of his designs.

I love this old cabinet with chicken wire in this picture.

Devoon!

XOXO,

Flashback Friday - A Child of the Seventies

I have been thinking a lot about my childhood lately. I think it has something to do with my birthday coming-up and my children telling me that I am OLD! Well, I don't feel all that old but the world is a much different place than it was forty years ago when I first arrived here - some for the better and some for the worse. I wish life wasn't so frantic and fast-paced. Everything is instant! I tell the mini-pearls stories about the "olden days" when I was little, and we had cartoons for an hour after school and Saturday mornings - only! The one that nearly brings them to tears is telling them about taking road-trips in the car with no TV or video games. (I used to bring those water toys that you press a button and it forced the little colored rings up and you tried to "hook" them. And later, I got a small, battery operated Simon. We also tried to get truckers to honk at us until our arms ached and the worst was the "family"
John Denver sing-a-longs.) Good times.

So, I rounded-up a few images of that wonderful point in time - the Seventies. This is just a few. I am short on time and very tired tonight, but I will have a part 2 at some point. It was too much fun to look these up. Enjoy! Have a fabulous weekend!

Were you a little bit country or a little bit rock n roll?
I watched the Donny and Marie show religiously. I wanted to be an Osmond!
My Daddy took me to see them in concert in Kindergarten.
Yes, I had, make that HAVE these dolls. They are in the closet in the hall. I didn't use my dolls for a picture,as Donny has a ripped crotch and this is a family friendly blog!

I had this exact lunch box! I was thrilled to find a picture of it.

It was a luxurious "white patten" vinyl. It was this Kindergarten girl's idea of cool and I loved it!

What I would give to have some of this again. Peach was the best! I really loved the little tins that it came in and the lid that slid-off.

My first perfume! I think I wore this until I "graduated" to "Lauren" in 7th grade! I remember receiving it in a stocking one year for Christmas and it had a small, pink teddy bear with it!

Holly Hobbie sleeping bag - oh the good times I had with this! If it could talk, it would be singing Xanadu and Grease or wanting to play a game of "Light as a Feather". I used this up until junior high and then I think I was made fun of one too many times and got something else. I can still remember how soft the pink lining was after being washed so many times!

Here's to Good Times,

Krissy

The Pearl's Nest - front porch

Our front porch chalkboard is a hit! Friends and neighbors love to leave messages on it.

I mentioned earlier in the week that the mini-pearls and I worked on the front porch last Friday evening. We purchased this year's haul of pumpkins and gourds and they enjoyed arranging their purchases around the front porch and flower beds. They did a great job, but I added a few more touches of my own. This required two trips to the attic and one trip to Hobby Lobby. I think I am finally ready to await the arrival of the "great pumpkin"! I do have a few more "Halloweeny" things, but I will wait and put those out on Halloween night!
The overall view.
This arrangement is actually in the flower bed.

Notice the TCU "rock" - go Horned Frogs!

Sport Cort placed all the little pumpkins in lines all around the porch.

I edited them a little!

Another Horned Frog.

Look closely in the window...Fisherman was peeping out to see what I was doing.

I bought several yards of orange, green and black tulle, tore them in strips and tied them around twine.

This formed the "garland" that I draped under the eaves.

My urns change with the seasons, so I took out the summer flowers and put in these pumpkin topiary.

They are fake, sorry if that offends anyone. I just don't want them to rot before Thanksgiving!

One of the little side niches and a close-up of my pumpkin lanterns.

They are getting a little faded, as I have has them a while, but they are a favorite!

Above the door, is a black glitter "BOO"

This door decoration will carry through to Thanksgiving.

This is a basket that I filled with pheasant feathers, deer sheds, a bird's nest, moss and tulle.

After Halloween,I will take out the jack-o-lantern and tulle.

Hope you enjoyed our porch. We sure are! After Halloween,I will take down the tulle and jack-o-lantern items and will have a nice Autumn theme to carry me through Thanksgiving.

Happy Fall Y'all!
