Gather Together

I love gathering around a Thanksgiving table. There is something so special about Thanksgiving; no presents to anticipate, just a time to share with loved ones and give thanks. Give thanks over a shared meal that (in the case of my family) consists of treasured recipes that have been passed-down through the years and prepared by loving hands with the memory of those not with us anymore. It truly is special to me.

Which of these spaces would you like to share Thanksgiving in? In the end, it isn't the room, but the presence of those you love with you that matters, BUT, a nice room is well, nice!

Have a great day lovelies!

Sit down and feed

...and welcome to our table
-William Shakespeare

That quote hangs in one of my favorite local bistros. The words bring a smile to my face and I am reminded that one week from today, I will be gathered around the dining table at my mom and dad's, surrounded by dear friends and family, and giving thanks. Can it really be that Thanksgiving is next week? I love this holiday. What is better than a day of remembering all that I have to be thankful for and eating and football?

The dining room is so often that "formal in the front of the house that gets used a couple of times a year" but for its lack of use, so many memories are there. I hope that you all make many happy memories around your table this holiday season and that these pictures will inspire you, as they have inspired me.

This was the dining room at my old home. I loved this room! All the memories and the Pierre Deaux wallpaper!

Oh, so lovely

I just love this dining room. The rough walls, the industrial chairs, the sparkly chandelier - lovely.

Wishing you an oh, so lovely day,

Color Me Happy

Happy Monday all! I sent three, very disappointed minis to school today. We were supposed to get one to four inches of snow yesterday, and it did snow, but didn't stick. All we have now is bitter cold and some icy mud to show for it. The areas just to the east and north of here are out of school, as they got the white stuff. It is a mixed blessing, as I am happy to have an empty house today and dry roads, but I feel the sadness of my offspring. Expecting a snow day and then not receiving it, well, that may just be one of life's biggest disappointments when you are seven, nine and twelve. I remember. Bummer!

Anywho! I did get a lot of TV watching in yesterday, as it was a snuggle-up, kind of day. I caught an episode of Color Splash on HGTV. This is not my usual show to watch, as I am not a "Miami/contemporary" kind of girl, but this dining room had me at "yellow!" I had dreams about this space last night and have contemplated selling my monogrammed, slip covered dining chairs, mahogany table and buffet and purchasing a thirteen foot long, yellow upholstered bench and a white table! Ok, then I wake-up from that dream. The space is so fun! All of my favorite colors are represented: bright pink, lemon yellow, turquoise and grass green and of course, white! What's not to love? What you can't see in this picture, is the kitchy collection of vintage salt and pepper shakers on sleek, display shelves and the cool display of blue caviar tins turned art. David and the Color Splash team also installed a bright yellow counter top on the adjacent kitchen island - perfection!

You may not love this as much as I did, but it is sure to brighten your Monday! Hope it's a good one for you.

Mello yellow - not!

Sit Down and Feast

Sit down and feast and welcome to our table.
-William Shakespeare

A week from today, I like many other proud Americans, will be participating in the sacred ritual of Thanksgiving preparations. Thursday will find me and the pearls gathered with my family and extended loved ones at my parent's home. But Wednesday, Wednesday is for cooking and baking and trying to get in a good run or two to make room for Thursday's meal. Our meal consists of a smoked turkey, cornbread dressing, deviled eggs (Texas is considered part of the South you know), sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, fresh cranberry relish, rolls, stuffed celery, lime Charlotte (that's a jello salad - it's not the holidays at our gatherings without a congealed salad), pumpkin pie, pecan pie and I know I'm forgetting something...gravy? We will all be seated around the table and say what we are thankful for and some of us will cry (mom) and we will all laugh and tell stories and enjoy the company of one another. I really love Thanksgiving. I love that we all linger around the table because there are no presents to open and all the other chaos that surrounds other get-togethers. Thanksgiving is all about family and friends and our love for one another and how blessed we are to be able to gather around our dining table and share a meal and ourselves. I hope next Thursday finds you gathered with those you love around a dining table and giving thanks!

Happy Wednesday!
