Snuggle Puppy

Have you purchased your Valentines yet? You have one day, as in twenty-four hours. Get crackin'! Today's love post has to do with one of my all-time favorite children's books. I cannot tell you how many times I have read this over the course of my mommy career. My kids still sing the catchy words. I  love it and I call them my "snuggle puppies." Want a good Valentine idea? Buy this book for your "snuggle puppy." You won't be sorry!

Oooohhhh! I love you - smooch!

Happy Mardi Gras!

No, I do not live in New Orleans, but one of my dear friends does, and I have been to the Crescent City, so, I celebrate. We won't have any floats or parades here in Cowtown, but I will be eating a King Cake and I may or may not wear some beads. No, Mardi Gras has nothing to do with love week, but I love a fun party and I love sweets, therefore, Mardi Gras is included. Celebrate!

Week of Love

One of my favorite weeks of the year is here! I call it a "week of love." A time to wear all of your pink and red clothing - together! A time to tell everyone near and dear how much you care. A time to gorge on yummy chocolate. And this year, a time to celebrate Mardi Gras! Yes, a week of love.

Sending love your way,

Krissy

Daddy Daughter Dance

The annual Daddy/Daughter Dance was last night for Mr. Pearl and Sweet Pea. The two of them look forward to this special evening each year, and I do, too. I love the fact that to Sweet Pea, her daddy is Prince Charming and they have a very special bond. I hope this lasts for a long time. Like, for another thirty years or so. Maybe that will keep her heart from being broken by some young man! Okay, I don't really want that, but it might save a lot of heartache.

I love my sweet girl and the young lady she has become. She is practical and wise beyond her years. Back in December, we purchased a couple of dressy dresses. We had intended them to be worn at Christmas and then for this dance, but she has really had opportunities to wear them, and I thought that a new frock would be special and well received. Wrong! Sweet Pea felt that her dresses were great. Really? A middle school girl that does not want to shop for a new dress? Uh, I didn't know what to say.
So, I insisted that we go and look on Thursday after school. We had a quick errand at Target and then I was going on to the Mall. What does girlfriend do? Looks through the clothes at Target and comes to me as excited as if she was at Bergdorf's or Bendel's -"Look at this, Mom! It's perfect!" And you know what? It was. A few accessories and we were done!

Yesterday, the day of the dance,  was an afternoon like any other Friday afternoon. We arrived home from school and all the mini-pearls dispersed to their rooms. Sweet Pea started to get ready for her evening. This included fixing her own hair, as I make it too pouffy. She came to my room for a little makeup application. She doesn't normally wear any, but for special occasions. (Yes, I know the day is quickly approaching.) I helped her put her outfit together and put on the finishing touches. She was so cute, as she did not want her daddy to see her until she was completely ready. We then made the reveal in the living room....

Something was wrong. Where was my baby girl? And who was this young woman with my husband? Time is marching on way to fast. She doesn't need to stand on her daddy's feet to dance with him. She is starting to wear makeup and has opinions about everything. She is so poised and grown-up. I guess I have done something right, as she is pretty amazing. It has just happened so fast!

Happy Saturday!

Fun and Funky Eats

These are pictures from a new restaurant here in Cowtown, Brewed. The vibe is like dining in the home of your coolest and most hip friend. The decor is found vintage and industrial chic and I love it! They serve amazing coffee and tea, micro brews and the food is comfort gourmet. Hello french fries with sea salt and truffle oil! Hope you enjoy the photo tour and better yet, go try it!

What We Are Doing

The Pearl Family Boots Rodeo 2013

Whoa! Hello February! How are you dear ones? We have been blowing and going non-stop around here. The older mini-pearls are playing basketball. The weather has been beautiful, so me and the mister have been able to get in a few sets of tennis. Mother-Son bowling  and play dates for Sport. Math competitions, PSIA practice and play rehearsals for Sweet Pea. High school applications and fishing for  Fisherman. Oh, and did I mention that it is Stock show and Rodeo time here in Cowtown? This make for a full plate o'fun!

 This is Fisherman playing ball.
His team won district and we are on to the tournament this week!
Good luck Junior High Eagles!

This is not basketball, but is a shot of Fisherman in costume for the Dickens of a Christmas play that he was in before Christmas. Love the period look with his cowboy boots, just saying. He is quite the thespian. Who knew?

On a design note, I placed an order for fabric for curtains for the game room. Pictures to follow! I am really excited, as I am finally feeling motivated to get back to work on the casa once again. Hope all is well with you.

Happy February!

Chocolate and Hot Pink Drama

A little drama for your Wednesday. If you are like me, you don't need anymore drama in your life, but this space is worth it! I just love this room! The drama, the hot pink pops...dramatic and fabulous.

Hope the rest of your day is drama free!

Rustic and Elegant - Kitchens

I have been in a rustic mood lately. Perhaps it is because the cold, winter months make me yearn for a cozy fire in a ski lodge somewhere. Perhaps it is because my oldest child is winding-up hunting season and has asked me to prepare his venison for him (not my fave, I prefer to work with antler sheds, not the rest of the animal. Just saying). Perhaps it is just because. Whatever the reason, I hope you like these rustic, elegant spaces as much as I do!

A Belated Holiday Recap

Hello lovelies! Yes, I realize that we are already finished with the second week of January, but I never posted on our Christmas. Forgive me. The mini-pearls were back to school this week and I was back to work and now it is Friday. I know you can relate.
Our holiday break had a dark cloud over it, as my sweet Sport was sick with pneumonia and Fisherman had an respiratory infection. Not fun. Fisherman recovered after the first week and was able to get in some time in the outdoors with a buddy and all was right in his world. Sweet Pea complained a lot, as the sickness cramped her social schedule, but we had some dear friends stand in the gap and keep that girl busy; her favorite thing to be! So, our break was quiet and we stayed home more than we would like, but not all bad. I am happy to report that Sport has a small, lingering cough but he is doing much better and back at school!
Today, the temperature is supposed to be 70' and sunny, but turn 40' and nasty tomorrow. No wonder we are sick! It is hard to believe that with the beautiful morning outside my window. We had a cozy, cloudy, white Christmas. Just enough to make everything pretty and not mess-up the roads. We Texans love us some snow! So, here is Christmas 2012...

Christmas Eve, Sweet Pea and I went alone to my Aunt's home and we all skipped church (first time EVER!). The boys all stayed home and slept, as they were not feeling well.

These are my 30 year old reindeer slippers. They have holes in the bottom and have seen their better days, but it's tradition! I love them! Oh, if they could talk! I got them when I was twelve and have worn them every Christmas since.

Love this of my girl and her daddy.

Look at this sweet, sick face. He really tried to rally. Presents make everyone feel better!

This is my baby brother, the fabulous Uncle G! He is an original and has the greatest sense of humor EVER! He makes you smile, just by 'being'. So, it was no surprise that he donned a new Christmas sweatshirt this year. Read it carefully and please don't be offended. Yes, we love Christmas Vacation and have many running family jokes around it. This was too funny!

This is how Texans act in the snow; as if they have never seen it, because we haven't, at least not very often. Yes, my sick boys are wearing shorts, in the snow, without coats. Don't judge. I was lucky to get them in their Christmas shirts. They figured they would be inside all day and it would be stuffy, hence, the shorts. My male children spend a lot of time worrying about being too hot. Anyone else?

Don't you love their Cowboy boots? Yes, that was to protect them from cold. (you may laugh)

It really was pretty. I have to share my favorite moment from the day: when the snow started, all sixteen of us were gathered in the family room opening presents. We burst into singing "White Christmas". The Mormon Tabernacle Choir we are not, but it was really neat.

Hope you all had a memorable holiday!
Here's to a happy and HEALTHY 2013!
